Here Are Some Examples of Emails From Some of our Kids:

From Tun Meta

Dear my foster parent,

Since I arrived Future Light Orphanage (FLO) I feel like my grand ma had found a heaven for me. Now I feel the most lucky that you accept to be your foster daughter and love me as a real children.

I would like to tell you about story as bellow:

My name is Tun Meta, please call me Meta. I am years 13 years old and study in grade 6 at a secondary school. I have one younger sister, grade 3, and one younger brother, grade 1. We all have been at FLO since September, 2003. Before coming FLO we were living with our grandma who is very old and very poor. Because she is very old and she think she could not support us for long term living and education, she requested an orphanage called “New Family Orphanage” for us to live there, but we could live there only six months, so after the six months already our grandma had looked for an orphanage, finally he found Future Light Orphanage (FLO) where it accept children to live until they finish high school, after that we have been very happy and feel bright of our future.

Talking about my blood parents; my father had died since 2002, and I missed my mother since 1996. Since that I had lived with my old grandma. After my grandma had realized that she could not support me for long term living and education, that was why she looked for an orphanage for us.

At school and at the orphanage I have many friends. I have one close friend at the orphanage. At free time I like reading and do all my personal works such as decorate my sleeping place and was my closes. At school I like maths because I can use it to calculate everything in every day usage.

At the end I would like to thank you very much accept me to be your foster child and support me for long term education. I wish you good luck for your business.

With loves and thanks,
Meta

Here Are Some Emails and the Replies

From Vonn Channou to Her Hawaiian Family

Dear My Hawaiian family: Dawn, Stev, and Danny

How are you doing? I hope that you are doing well. I am writing to you to let you know that I am doing well at school as well as at the orphanage. I have gone to school about one month after the short vacation, and I have been studying hard. Today I have a monthly test and I have done it well. How is the weather there? Here in Cambodia it has been changed to wet season and it is cool, rainy, and winder. What kind of weather do you like?

Love,
Channou

Dear Channou:

I am glad to hear you are working so hard at school and doing well at the orphanage. Congratulations on doing so well on your test at school. You are going to be such a smart girl!!!

We are starting our summer season and the weather is going to be hotter. That means we will be swimming more in the ocean and the swimming pool to stay cool. We like the warm weather. Danny is also out of regular school on Wednesday. Then he has one week off to just relax and then he will go to summer school for 6 weeks. He is taking a class that teaches him how to make small rockets to shoot up in the air. Just the play type of rockets. He loves to build things. What do you like to do when you are not in school? Do you play a sport? Danny plays soccer and likes it a lot.

It is wonderful to hear from you again. Keep up the good work at school. Keep writing to us so you will learn your English. It has been a while since last time we heard from you. Have you been busy at school? Please teach us words you use too… like hello, goodbye, etc. (You can write it in your language and then next to it write in English). Please say hello to all your friends at school.

Aloha,

Dawn

To Bou Davin From Her Foster Mommy Donna

Dear Davin,

It is the end of February, and it has been snowing outside all day. It is really quite beautiful. This month as been very cold. The temperature has been about 10 - 20 degrees above zero which is cold. 32 degrees is freeing. In the summer when it is hot it gets about
98-100 degrees. The perfect temperature is about 70 of 80 degrees. I'm not complaining though because we need the moisture so we will not have a drought in the summer.

I hope you are well and learning much. Be sure to write me and tell me about some of the things you are learning. Do you do anything with music? What kind of music do you have there?

As I have told you before, I am directing a play that is a musical play. We have an orchestra with instruments like the violin, flute, trumpet, french horn, etc. We have about 200 children who sing in the choir. They are ages 12 years to 18 years old. And then we have many who act out the scenes. It should be very nice.

Tonight I am taking my grandaughter, Caryssa to a play called "Oliver.” It is a very cute musical play that was first written in a book by Charles Dickens. It is about a boy who was in an orphanage. That should interest you. The play was actually written a long time ago to
help people become more aware of the needs of children. But it is well done and the children love to see it. There are many children in our community who play parts in this performance.

We are very busy here, as always but life is good and we are happy. I want you to learn much and also have a happy life. Write back soon.

Love you,
Mommy Donna

Just one to say Hi and ask you how are you right now? For me I am doing OK in the orphanage. I am having school vacation now. The vacation is two month. I like vacation very much because I have much time to relax from study and enjoy playing with my friends. But I still study English and Computer at the orphanage and I spend more time to study English by myself.

Hello my little one. I was so happy to hear from you. I am so happy that you are still learning the computer and English during summer but you still have a lot of time to play with your friends.

In my geography class, which is a study of the world, I am just studying Southeast Asia, including Cambodia. I was very interested in Cambodia because that is where my daughter Monirath lives :) Are you still having rainy season? We are very hot and humid right now with rain today. I have finished two classes already so I am getting a lot of studying this year.

The 16th of August my husband and I will fly to California and rent a car. We have rented a beautiful home on the northern coast right above the ocean. It is much cooler there and some times foggy. We like to play golf. Do you know that game? So we will walk on the beach, relax and play golf for our vacation. It is a very special vacation and we have worked very hard all year so that we can do it.

Does your Grandmother live nearby? Do you like to visit at her house? Do your friends have some family where they visit too?

I miss you a lot. I am going to go shopping soon again and send you another special package. I am wondering what you like. Are you able to read English yet?

Thank you so much for writing to me. I love you.

Your Mommy,

Lennie

Dearest most beautiful foster kid Bou Linna:

We sent you this exact email and some pictures of us and our cat. You should get it in a week or so.

Wonderful knowing that you are progressing in you learning of English. You learn English well and it will open up doors in your life. You can repeat words and phrases in you mind during the day for accelerated progress.

Our cat named "Hotula", is very smart and can drink water from the faucet. She asks us for affection and sometimes sleeps in our bed during the day. She climbs on us and licks us on the face.

Much love from your very nice foster parents, Lee and Alton
