Circumstances of Orphan: Pisey’s father died only eight months
ago due to high blood pressure and heart complications. The
mother is still living but is a poor rural farmer in Takeo
Province. The mother is unable to support Pisay to attend high
school and there is concern regarding what will happen if she
remains in her village. She had two sisters and one brother but
one of her sisters has died of Dengue fever. The remaining two
siblings are much younger and will stay with the mother. With
the support of a foster parent, Pisey will be able to receive
room and board at FLO and attend high school in addition to
other educational opportunities at the orphanage.

Sareach Yi

Place of Birth: Kandal Province, Cambodia
Circumstances of Orphan: Sareach’s parents are still alive but
are poor rural farmers. He has 2 brothers and four sisters. One
of his sisters has already been married off and lives with her
husband, also one of his brothers and works as rice planter. One
of other sisters works in a garment factory and one comes to
FLO. His family does not make enough to support the family.
While living with his family he was responsible for doing many
chores and was not able to go to school on a regular basis.
Sareach expressed a desire to learn at FLO. He hopes to study
hard to help break the cycle of poverty that has entrapped his
family. With the assistance of a sponsor, he will be able to
stay at FLO and have access to educational opportunities at
the state school as well as at the orphanage.

to be a teacher.

Theara Phan

Place of Birth: Prey Veng Province, Cambodia
Circumstances of Orphan: Theara is an orphan and both of his
parents have passed away. The cause of death is attributed to
HIV but the time of death is unknown. He had three sisters and
one brother, but two of his sisters have also died of HIV. The
other sister is working in a garment factory and his brother is
working in a poor rural farming community in Thailand. Before
coming to FLO, Theara was living in Prey Veng Province with his
grandparents and aunt. They could not afford to send him to
school, so his exposure to educational opportunities has been
extremely limited. Support from a foster parent would really
improve Theara’s chance of success at FLO and beyond.
Special Interest: He likes to read books and play soccer and
jumping rope. He wants to be a doctor.

Circumstances of Orphan: Sreyleak’s father died when she was
very young; he was a solider and was shot for unknown reasons.
The mother is still living but is a poor rural farmer in Takeo
Province. Sreyleak has two brothers and one sister. The sister
has already been married off and lives with her husband. The
mother is unable to support the remaining three children and
none of them have regularly attended school. The brothers will
stay and help support the mother. With the assistance of a
foster parent, Sreyleak will receive support at FLO and will
have access to educational opportunities. She is eager to begin
learning.
